Even as discontent grows over the increased application fee for Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET)-2026, a parallel threat has emerged in the form of a fake website allegedly designed to dupe aspirants. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission has issued a formal alert, advising candidates to remain cautious and submit applications only through the official website.
Fake ‘uptet2026.in’ Website Mimics Official Portal to Dupe Aspirants
According to the Commission, following the official notification released on March 20, 2026, all detailed information and the instruction booklet related to the examination have been uploaded on the authorized portal. However, a fraudulent website operating under the name ‘uptet2026.in’ has surfaced, closely mimicking the official interface. The site reportedly displays application-related options, increasing the risk of candidates being misled and financially exploited.

UPTET 2026 ₹1000 Fee Hike Sparks Protests Among Candidates
Meanwhile, the revised application fee for UPTET-2026 has triggered protests among aspirants. A youth organization submitted a memorandum to the Commission, demanding a rollback in fees and error-free question papers in the examination.
Representatives of the group stated that the fee has been fixed at ₹1000 per level. As a result, candidates applying for both primary and upper primary levels are required to pay up to ₹2000, which they argue places an additional financial burden on already struggling unemployed youth.
During the submission of the memorandum, several candidates raised concerns over transparency and quality in the examination process. They emphasized that while the fee has been increased, it is equally important for the authorities to ensure accuracy and fairness in the question papers to maintain trust among aspirants.
Cyber Experts Warn of Social Engineering in UPTET Fraud Risks
Cyber experts warn that incidents involving fake websites tend to spike during major competitive examinations. Renowned cyber crime expert and former IPS officer Prof. Triveni Singh said, “Cyber criminals rely heavily on social engineering tactics. They design websites that look identical to official portals, prompting users to share personal details and payment information without verification.”
He further advised candidates to carefully verify the website URL before clicking on any link and to rely strictly on government or authorized sources for application processes.
The Commission has reiterated its appeal, urging candidates to avoid applying through unknown links, websites, or social media posts. In case of any suspicious activity or portal, candidates should immediately report it to the concerned authorities.
As preparations for UPTET-2026 gather pace, the dual concerns of rising application costs and cyber fraud risks continue to trouble aspirants. Experts maintain that vigilance and adherence to official guidelines remain the safest course of action in such a scenario.
