Lucknow — In the digital era, cybercrimes are rising rapidly, and ensuring that fraud victims get their stolen money back has become the biggest challenge for the police and administration. Now, the Uttar Pradesh Police is moving toward a new initiative.
The state will soon launch a ‘Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre’, aimed at bringing bank officials, telecom companies, and police authorities together on one platform. The objective is to immediately track fraudulent transactions and return the money to victims without delay.

Direct Integration with Helpline 1930
Officials said that if a person registers a complaint through the 1930 helpline number, the centre will be activated immediately. The victim’s account and transaction trail will be tracked, and coordination with the concerned bank will lead to freezing of the amount.
Currently, this helpline receives around 7,000 complaints daily. According to police data, in just the past three months, ₹71 crore has already been returned to victims.
DGP’s Appeal
DGP Rajeev Krishna said:
“If anyone becomes a victim of cyber fraud, they should call 1930 without delay. The quicker the complaint is lodged, the faster bank accounts can be frozen and the money returned.”
He also shared that in a recent cyber fraud case, police managed to freeze and return ₹27.85 lakh within just a few hours.
Experts’ Opinion
Cybercrime expert Prof. Triveni Singh (former IPS officer) described the initiative as a “game-changer in the fight against cyber fraud.”
“Until now, victims often suffered losses because lodging complaints and initiating action took time. This new center will unite multiple agencies on a single platform, enabling swift coordination. Most importantly, this model can become an ideal framework not just for Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country.”
With this initiative, authorities hope to tighten the noose on cybercriminals and speed up relief for citizens hit by digital fraud. But the real test will be whether the system can handle millions of complaints quickly and effectively.
