17 UP Police Officers Awarded President’s Medal for Gallantry on Independence Day 2024
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has announced that the President of India has sanctioned the prestigious President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG) to several members of the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Home Guards & Civil Defence. This honor is being bestowed on the occasion of Independence Day 2024, recognizing the extraordinary bravery and dedication of these officers in protecting life, property, and maintaining law and order.

Additionally, Assistant Deputy Controller (Senior Scale) Banwari Lal, from the Home Guards & Civil Defence Service is also among the honored recipients.
About the President’s Medal for Gallantry:
The President’s Medal for Gallantry is awarded for acts of bravery in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals. This award is given to members of the Indian Police Force without regard to rank or length of service. The medal is accompanied by a monthly stipend, which continues to be paid to the recipient even after retirement, and upon their death, to their surviving spouse. The medal, initially known as the President’s Police and Fire Service Medal, has a history of recognizing the courageous efforts of police officers across the nation since its inception.
The awardees have demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication, often risking their lives in the line of duty. Their actions have not only safeguarded lives and property but have also upheld the rule of law, earning them this distinguished honor.
The official announcement can be accessed on the Ministry of Home Affairs website starting from August 14, 2024. The awards will also be formally recorded in the Gazette of India by the President’s Secretariat.
These brave officers and personnel from Uttar Pradesh have brought pride to their state and set an exemplary standard of service and sacrifice for others to follow.
