1. 11th August 2023: The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (Act) received the assent of the Hon’ble President of India.
2. 3rd January 2025: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology published the draft Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 on its official website for public consultation.

a. The draft version of the Rules has been prepared, based on what is required under different sections of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
b. These Rules include the important details and practical steps needed to put the Act into action.
c. While drafting the Rules, the following key principles (also used in the Act) were carefully followed:
• Simple and clear language was used to ensure easy understanding.
• Unnecessary cross-referencing between sections was avoided to reduce confusion.
• Contextual definitions were provided to explain terms within the right setting.
• Illustrations (examples) were added to show how the Rules work in real-life scenarios.
3. 18th February 2025: Initial deadline for submission of feedback/comments from stakeholders.
4. Post 18th February 2025: Based on multiple stakeholder representations, the Ministry decided to extend the feedback period.
5. 5th March 2025: Revised and final deadline for receipt of feedback/comments.
Surprisingly in the Union Budget only INR 2crore was allocated for Data Protection Board establishment, salary expenses.
