New Delhi — India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) is set to roll out a new e-Aadhaar app by December 2025, promising a smoother, safer, and more user-friendly digital identity experience for millions of citizens.

AI-Driven Features and Face ID Login

The upcoming app integrates advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, face ID login, and QR code verification. Users will be able to log in simply by scanning their face, update critical personal information—including name, address, and date of birth—directly within the app, download their Aadhaar, review update histories, and even order PVC Aadhaar cards for home delivery.

Secure Sharing and Verification

A built-in QR code scanner will enable quick verification of Aadhaar details, reducing the risk of fraudulent identification. Users will also be able to share their Aadhaar information securely online, minimizing the need for photocopies during routine verifications.

Mobile Number Updates Remain Offline

However, UIDAI has clarified that changing an Aadhaar-linked mobile number will still require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Citizens will need to complete a correction form and undergo biometric verification before the new number is linked. According to UIDAI, this step is crucial for security, given the importance of mobile numbers in banking and government services.

Expert Opinion

Dr. Anshul Verma, a specialist in digital identity and cybersecurity, noted, “The new UIDAI app will significantly simplify digital identity management while ensuring enhanced security. Features like face ID and AI will not only accelerate login processes but also safeguard sensitive data. The offline step for mobile number updates is a necessary security measure.”

Beta Testing and Refinements

Earlier this year, in April, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the beta version of the new app. UIDAI is currently fine-tuning it based on user feedback to ensure a seamless experience at full launch.

A Milestone in India’s Digital Identity Journey

While the existing mAadhaar app provided basic services such as address updates and downloads, users frequently reported glitches and limited functionality. The new e-Aadhaar app aims to resolve these issues, delivering an AI-powered, modern experience for millions of citizens—without the hassle of long queues at service centers.
