Lucknow. A token management system introduced in Lucknow to streamline crowds at offices providing Aadhaar-related services and grievance redressal will now be implemented across the country. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to roll out the QR code-based online appointment and digital token system developed by its Lucknow Aadhaar office across all regional offices. The decision was taken during the Aadhaar Samvaad programme held in Kolkata on the occasion of the 17th Aadhaar Day.
During the programme, UIDAI Chief Executive Officer Saurabh Vijay, member Prof. Mausam, headquarters Deputy Director General Vivek Chandra Verma and Lucknow Regional Office Deputy Director General Prashant Kumar Singh launched the initiative for nationwide adoption. The new system is intended to allow citizens visiting UIDAI offices for Aadhaar-related services to schedule appointments in advance and obtain digital tokens.

A large number of people visit UIDAI regional and state offices every day for Aadhaar-related complaints, corrections, updates and other services. On days when the footfall is particularly high, some citizens had to return without getting their issues resolved because the number of visitors exceeded the capacity of the offices. The problem was particularly difficult for people travelling from distant districts. The Lucknow office developed the token management system to address this challenge.
Under the new system, citizens can book an online appointment by scanning a QR code through their mobile phones. Appointments can also be booked through UIDAI’s service website. Once the appointment is booked, citizens receive a digital token that allows them to visit the concerned office at the scheduled time.
The advance appointment facility will remain available round the clock. According to UIDAI, citizens will not be charged any fee for the service. The objective is to reduce unnecessary waiting and overcrowding at offices while making service delivery more organised. The digital token system will also allow citizens to know in advance when they need to visit the office for their Aadhaar-related work.
The facility is expected to be particularly useful for people travelling from distant districts to regional or state offices for Aadhaar-related services. It could also benefit walk-in visitors and those who need services within a fixed time frame. Online appointments may help reduce the time spent waiting at offices as well as unnecessary travel for citizens who otherwise may have to make repeated visits.
The decision to implement the token system nationwide comes at a time when demand for Aadhaar-related services remains high. Apart from corrections in names, addresses and dates of birth, people regularly visit Aadhaar centres and offices for updating mobile numbers, other demographic information and biometric details. The digital system is intended to help manage the flow of visitors seeking these services more efficiently.
The Aadhaar Samvaad programme also recognised Uttar Pradesh for recording the highest number of mandatory biometric updates for children in the country. According to the figures presented during the programme, mandatory biometric updates were carried out for 71 lakh children in Uttar Pradesh over the past 10 months.
Biometric information in children’s Aadhaar records needs to be updated at prescribed ages so that changes in their physical identity can be reflected in their Aadhaar records. The large number of updates in Uttar Pradesh has been presented as an important achievement in expanding Aadhaar services and keeping children’s records updated.
The nationwide rollout of the digital token system developed in Lucknow is aimed at making the process of accessing Aadhaar services more organised and time-bound. By allowing citizens to schedule appointments and obtain digital tokens in advance, the system is expected to reduce crowding and improve the management of visitors at UIDAI offices.
The effectiveness of the initiative, however, will depend on how smoothly online appointment booking, digital token allocation and actual service delivery at individual offices are coordinated. The nationwide rollout will provide a broader framework for managing visitor flow while giving citizens a more structured way to access Aadhaar-related services.
