A financial fraud investigation involving Tripura IAS officer Abhishek Chandra has brought his family members under scrutiny.

What Is the Alleged Fraud Case About?

Documents linked to an investigation by the West Bengal Police Special Task Force (STF) refer to alleged financial irregularities involving business transactions, government tenders and rental agreements. It includes a statement by businessman Shyamal Bepari and an extract from a supplementary chargesheet. It refers to Abhishek Chandra’s brother, Abinab Chandra, and their mother, Manjula Pramod Bisaria.

Bepari alleged that he was introduced to a business opportunity involving government tender supplies. The proposed arrangement reportedly involved a tender worth approximately ₹79 lakh, earnest money deposits and anticipated profits. He claimed that he invested money after receiving assurances but subsequently encountered difficulties recovering his funds and obtaining the promised returns.

What Is Abinab Chandra’s Alleged Role?

According to Bepari’s statement, Abinab Chandra helped facilitate business contacts and discussions concerning proposed work in Tripura. Bepari alleged that he was encouraged to participate in business connected with Mid-Day Meals tenders and introduced to other individuals associated with the arrangements.

However, Abinab’s precise involvement in any alleged financial wrongdoing remains unestablished. The available supplementary chargesheet extract does not list him among the four individuals named in that chargesheet. His role would require verification through complete investigation records and supporting financial evidence.

Why Has Their Mother Been Named?

The supplementary chargesheet extract contains an allegation concerning Manjula Pramod Bisaria and rental agreements suspected by investigators to be false. The documents allegedly presented certain residences as rented premises in arrangements involving investors and Krishna Chakraborty.

Investigators suspected that these agreements were intended to portray transactions or proceeds as legitimate rental income.

There is also reference to alleged financial transactions involving Chaltakhali Swamiji Seva Sangha and bank accounts associated with individuals connected to the case. These include alleged receipts of ₹75 lakh and ₹25 lakh, alongside another transaction of ₹58 lakh involving Krishna Chakraborty and Shyamal Bepari. The precise relationship between these transactions and the alleged fraud remains unclear.

What Remains Under Investigation?

The documents also mention tender-related activities involving Tripura’s Directorate of Higher Education, including earnest money deposits, supply orders and claims of unpaid funds. The complainant alleged that the proposed business arrangements failed to deliver the promised financial returns.

The420 Insight: The allegations underline the importance of examining financial records, contractual documents and transaction trails before determining individual responsibility. References to family members in investigative material do not, by themselves, establish criminal involvement.
