Top Police Officials Removed in Wake of Viral Harassment Video of Woman on Bike in Lucknow
In a disturbing incident captured on camera, a woman and a man on a motorbike were harassed by a mob on a flooded road in Lucknow. The situation escalated when the men attempted to pull the bike from behind, causing the duo to fall. The Lucknow Police have arrested four individuals and suspended several officials for negligence.
Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a woman traveling on a motorbike with a man faced harassment from a group of men on a flooded road in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The disturbing act, captured on camera, took place under the Taj Hotel bridge in the Gomti Nagar area during heavy rainfall on July 31, 2024.
The viral video shows a group of men surrounding the bike on the waterlogged road, obstructing the couple’s path. The men began splashing water on the riders, impeding their progress through the already inundated street. The situation escalated when some men attempted to pull the bike from behind, causing the duo to lose balance and fall on the flooded road. Amidst the chaos, a man allegedly groped the woman before forcefully pulling the bike. Fortunately, a bystander came to the woman’s aid, assisting her to stand up.
This incident, which highlights a grave concern for public safety, has sparked outrage among citizens. Social media was flooded with videos of the incident, with one user commenting, “This nuisance is not a part of Lucknow’s culture! You can guess how high the spirits of the miscreants are in Yogi Raj by watching the video.”

In response to the viral video, the Lucknow Police immediately took action. The Gomti Nagar police station registered an FIR and formed four teams, including a crime team, to arrest the culprits. As of now, four accused have been arrested based on CCTV footage and evidence collected from the scene. The police have invoked sections 191(2), 3(5), 272, 285, and 74 (related to outraging a woman’s modesty) of the BNS 2023. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected soon.
In light of the incident, senior police officials have faced consequences for negligence. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pratap Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amit Kumawat, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anshu Jain, have been removed from their positions with immediate effect. Additionally, the local in-charge inspector, Deepak Kumar Pandey, and two police officers, Kapil Kumar and Virendra Kumar, have been suspended for their failure to maintain order.
