1. Tamil Nadu Cyber Scam Victims Suffer Losses Exceeding Rs 1000 Crore Between January and September
In Tamil Nadu, cyber financial frauds caused losses of Rs 1,116 crore between January and September 2024, according to the state’s cyber crime police. Despite this, Rs 526 crore was frozen and Rs 48 crore recovered for victims. Authorities stress the importance of early reporting to improve fund recovery chances.
2. Maharashtra Inaugurates Rs 800 Crore Cybercrime Combat Center
Maharashtra inaugurated a Rs 800-crore cybercrime command center in Navi Mumbai to combat digital fraud across the state. Built by L&T Technology Services, the center integrates advanced forensic technologies and AI tools to address threats like malware, deepfakes, and cryptocurrency frauds.
3. Cyberabad Police Investigate Rs 15.86 Lakh Fraud Linked to Fake TRA
An IT employee lost Rs 15.86 lakh to fraudsters posing as TRAI officials. The scammers, claiming the victim’s number was linked to illegal activities, demanded personal details and coerced him into transferring funds by threatening legal action. Realizing the fraud, the victim reported it to Cyberabad police.
4. ‘Administrative Delays’ Hamper Cyber Policing Efforts
The Capital City faces a surge in cybercrimes, with Rs 10.61 crore lost in August alone. From May to July, daily cases of UPI and card fraud were logged, alongside hundreds of complaints of online harassment and website fraud. Administrative delays hinder the police’s ability to combat the rising threat effectively.

5. Rs 1.48 Lakh Recovered from Cybercriminals in Recent Crackdown
Doda police recovered over Rs 1.48 lakh defrauded by cybercriminals. The Cybercrime Investigation Unit (CICU), established in February, has recovered Rs 26.26 lakh in total. Victims Nasreena Begum and Feroz Ahmed Dar reported the fraud. Doda SSP Mohammad Aslam urged the public to report cybercrimes promptly via National helpline 1930 or online.
