Ambala Cyber Police arrested two men from Yamunanagar in a digital arrest scam, recovering ₹1.65 lakh and three phones. Linked to 90 complaints across states, the duo used the Biggo app for transactions. The case began with a Palam Vihar resident’s complaint about a fake police warrant and extortion.
2. WhatsApp scam: Chennai man duped of ₹22 lakh, two held in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Chennai Cyber Police arrested two men from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for duping a Sowcarpet businessman of ₹22.6 lakh in a fake veterinary drug deal. The accused posed as international buyers, routed funds via multiple bank accounts, and withdrew over ₹20 lakh. The scam spanned several Indian states.
3. Spike in fraud calls from Pakistan amid emerging malware threat, warn authorities
Indian agencies have flagged a Pakistan-linked cyber campaign using “Dance of the Hillary” malware, spreading via WhatsApp, Facebook, and Telegram to steal data and control devices. A retired bank manager lost ₹4.5 lakh in a credit card scam after sharing details with a fraudster posing as a bank staffer. Cossipore police arrested bike rider Ashish Sahu, who rented his account to cybercriminals. A private bank manager is also under probe for aiding the fraud.
