Hyderabad: In a major relief for victims of cyber fraud, the first Lok Adalat of 2026 held in Telangana facilitated the refund of ₹24.91 crore to 4,627 victims. The initiative is being seen as a significant step towards ensuring faster justice and financial recovery in cybercrime cases.
The special Lok Adalat was conducted on March 28, bringing together multiple cybercrime units, banks, digital payment service providers, and judicial authorities to expedite the resolution of pending cases. The focus remained on tracing fraudulent transactions and returning the siphoned funds to victims efficiently.
Coordinated Efforts Across Cyber Units
According to available data, the highest recovery was recorded by the state’s central cyber unit, which returned ₹5.64 crore to 87 victims. The Malkajgiri unit followed with ₹4.79 crore refunded to 832 victims, while the Hyderabad unit facilitated ₹3.99 crore in refunds to 553 victims. Cyberabad and Sangareddy units also played a key role, each enabling recoveries of ₹1.52 crore and benefiting hundreds of victims.
Experts view this coordinated approach as an effective model in tackling cyber fraud. Real-time collaboration between enforcement units, banking systems, and digital payment networks has proven crucial in tracking fraudulent transactions, freezing funds promptly, and ensuring timely refunds.

A Growing Model for Cyber Fraud Restitution
The initiative reflects a steadily strengthening framework for cybercrime victim restitution in the state. Since its inception, a total of ₹399.06 crore has been refunded to 53,434 victims. The year-wise data highlights a sharp upward trend in recoveries over the past three years.
In 2023, recoveries stood at just ₹8.3 crore. This figure surged dramatically to ₹183.9 crore in 2024 and remained strong at around ₹183 crore in 2025. The consistent rise underscores the increasing efficiency of the state’s cybercrime response mechanism.
The Importance of Speed in Cybercrime Reporting
Officials emphasize that timely reporting remains critical in such cases. The initial few hours after a cyber fraud incident are considered crucial. Prompt reporting significantly improves the chances of tracking transactions and freezing the stolen funds before they are moved further.
Keeping this in mind, citizens have been urged to immediately report cyber fraud incidents through the national helpline 1930. Additionally, filing complaints on the official online portal can help authorities initiate swift action.
Strengthening Systems and Public Confidence
With cybercrime cases on the rise, such Lok Adalats are emerging as an effective platform for delivering quick relief to victims. They not only help in financial recovery but also strengthen public confidence in the system.
Authorities are now working to further strengthen this model to ensure faster recovery in a larger number of cases and to tighten the grip on cybercriminal networks in the coming years.
