The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau has identified assets worth ₹9.41 crore in a disproportionate assets probe against an officer.

Who Is Under Investigation?

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched an investigation against V Narasimha Rao, District Manager (Technical) of the Civil Supplies Department in Mahabubabad district, over allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The bureau conducted preliminary searches at seven locations connected to Rao, his relatives and associates.

Rao previously worked at the Khammam Collectorate. Investigators suspect that he acquired properties and other assets through alleged corrupt practices during his government service.

The ACB said proceedings had been initiated to register a case under Section 13(1)(b), read with Section 13(2), of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.

What Properties Were Identified?

Investigators identified five open plots in Ballepalli, Raghunathapalem and Velugumatla in Khammam district, measuring a combined 1,230.16 square yards. The plots, registered in the names of Rao and his wife, have a stated document value of ₹30.72 lakh.

Agricultural holdings were also identified in Suryapet district, including properties in Kamala Cheruvu, Sirikonda and Mothe mandals. These include two parcels measuring approximately 5.31 acres each at Navavaram.

The searches further identified three residential or commercial buildings in Khammam and Badangpet. Registered in the names of Rao, his wife and father-in-law, the buildings have a combined document value of ₹1.58 crore.

What Other Assets Were Found?

The ACB identified vehicles including a Hyundai Creta valued at ₹18.49 lakh, a TVS Jupiter worth ₹1.05 lakh and a Honda Activa 4G valued at ₹50,000. Household articles were estimated at ₹33.48 lakh. Investigators also reported gold ornaments weighing 360.97 grams and silver ornaments weighing 331.58 grams, with a combined stated value of ₹9.39 lakh. Cash amounting to ₹15,600 was seized from Rao’s residence.

The ACB said the market value of the immovable properties could substantially exceed their recorded values and potentially cross ₹50 crore. Investigators are also examining a suspected rice mill allegedly acquired under a benami name.

The inquiry is focused on establishing the ownership of the identified properties and verifying the sources of funds used for their acquisition. The bureau has not concluded its assessment, and further verification remains underway.

The investigation will determine whether the identified assets were acquired through legitimate income or constitute disproportionate wealth under the applicable anti-corruption provisions.
