Nagercoil. A Tamil Nadu YouTuber couple who had been showcasing expensive jewellery and cash on social media became the target of a burglary at their home in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district. The thieves allegedly escaped with around 118 sovereigns of gold jewellery and a substantial amount of cash. The total value of the stolen valuables is estimated at around ₹1 crore. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
The incident took place on Thursday night at VIP Garden in Thammathukonam, near Nagercoil. The house of YouTubers Vinod Kumar and Madhumitha was allegedly targeted by the burglars. According to preliminary information, the intruders broke open the back door of the house to gain entry. They then allegedly took away gold jewellery and cash kept inside the residence.

It has been reported that shortly before the burglary, Madhumitha had shared a video on social media showing valuables and jewellery kept inside the family’s puja room. Her social media accounts have also featured videos and reels involving expensive purchases, gold jewellery and cash. After the burglary, the earlier videos attracted considerable attention and triggered various reactions online.
According to police, the house is located in an area equipped with CCTV cameras for security. Despite the surveillance, the burglars allegedly managed to enter the residence and flee with the valuables. Investigators are now examining CCTV recordings from the area to trace the movements of the suspects and determine how they approached and left the property.
Rajakamangalam police have registered a case and begun a detailed investigation. Investigators are examining footage from the house and surrounding areas. Mobile network-related call records are also being analysed to identify possible suspects and establish their movements around the time of the incident. Police are trying to determine how many people were involved in the burglary and which route they took after leaving the area.
The exact value of the stolen jewellery and cash will also be established during the investigation. Police may examine documents and other available records relating to the jewellery and cash kept at the residence to assess the actual loss. At present, the value of the stolen valuables has been estimated at around ₹1 crore.
The burglary has also triggered discussion on social media about the risks of publicly displaying expensive possessions. Several users questioned the potential security implications of sharing information about valuable jewellery, cash and household possessions on public platforms. Some suggested that repeatedly displaying expensive belongings online could provide strangers with information about a person’s possessions and, potentially, their residence.
However, reactions on social media do not establish any connection between the online posts and the burglary. The responsibility for a burglary rests with those who carried it out, and the police investigation will determine how the house was identified and targeted. Investigators will also examine whether any information shared through social media had any actual connection with the incident.
Investigators are further looking into whether the residence had been monitored beforehand or whether the burglary was carried out opportunistically. CCTV recordings, mobile network records and other evidence collected from the scene are expected to help investigators establish the sequence of events and identify the suspects.
Police have not yet reported any arrests in the case. The investigation is focused on identifying the burglars, recovering the stolen jewellery and cash, and establishing the circumstances surrounding the break-in. The role, if any, of the social media videos in the incident will become clearer only after investigators examine the available evidence and establish the complete sequence of events.
