Chennai: In a landmark effort to combat cybercrime, Tamil Nadu Police carried out a state-wide operation named “Thiraineeku”, arresting 70 cyber fraudsters in just three days. The operation, which is being hailed as one of the largest cybercrime crackdowns in India, targeted 135 cases involving fraudulent activities worth Rs 41.9 crore.

The operation was meticulously planned and executed by the State Cyber Crime Wing (CCW) under the supervision of ADGP (Cyber Crime) Sandeep Mittal. Special teams comprising District Superintendents of Police and Police Commissioners led the action across districts and cities, ensuring a synchronized approach.

The operation leveraged profiling through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), databases of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), and analysis of bank fund trails. This helped identify and apprehend individuals linked to 158 NCRP complaints, dismantling organized cybercrime networks operating in the state.

An official statement described the arrests as a major achievement in tackling cybercrime in Tamil Nadu. “These arrests represent a significant victory in dismantling organized cybercrime in the State. This operation effectively strikes at the backbone of the cybercrime network,” said a senior official.

Officials emphasized that stringent legal actions will be taken to deter other potential cybercriminals.
