New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP and Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation Sudha Murty has issued a public warning against AI-generated deepfake videos circulating on social media platforms that falsely use her voice and image to promote investment schemes. She clarified that she has no association with any such schemes and that the videos are entirely fake. Several individuals have reportedly suffered financial losses after being misled by these clips.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Murty stated that she does not offer any investment advice. She said the videos being circulated online were created without her knowledge or consent and urged people not to trust such content. She advised citizens to verify all financial information through official and credible channels before taking any investment-related decisions.

Fraud Network Active Across Social Media Platforms

According to available information, the deepfake videos are primarily being circulated on Facebook and other social media platforms. The clips make exaggerated and unrealistic return claims and include links that redirect users to suspicious websites. These sites are designed to extract personal details, banking information, and other sensitive data from unsuspecting users.

Murty noted that even some people known to her had fallen victim to these misleading claims and invested money, resulting in financial losses. She warned that such scams are deliberately designed to exploit public trust.

Similar Incidents Reported Earlier

This is not the first instance where Sudha Murty’s identity has been misused to promote fraudulent investment schemes. A similar AI-generated video had surfaced earlier, allegedly showing her encouraging people to click on links for investment opportunities. Experts point out that such scams increasingly rely on advanced techniques like voice cloning and facial manipulation, making the videos appear authentic.

Appeal to Stay Alert and Report Fake Content

In her public appeal, Murty urged citizens not to make any financial decisions based on such videos or links. She requested users to report such content on the respective social media platforms and rely only on verified and official sources for financial information.

Rising Concern Over Digital Investment Fraud

Experts say that with the rapid advancement of deepfake technology, cases of digital investment fraud are rising sharply. Videos created using the identities of well-known public figures can easily mislead ordinary citizens. In such a scenario, awareness, prompt reporting, and proactive action by digital platforms are considered crucial to curb the menace.
