In a significant step in Jammu and Kashmir’s fight against narcotics, police authorities in Srinagar on Friday attached a residential property valued at ₹50 lakh belonging to a notorious drug peddler. The action was carried out under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, aimed at disrupting the financial gains from illicit drug trafficking in the region.
The property, a two-storey house with adjoining land, is located in Sirgufwara, Anantnag, and was allegedly acquired through proceeds of drug smuggling.
Background of the Case
The accused, Bilal Ahmad Wani, son of Gh. Ahmad Wani, has been under investigation in connection with FIR No. 05/2025 registered at Shaheed Gunj Police Station. Police allege that Bilal was actively involved in drug trafficking operations in Srinagar and other parts of the valley.
As per police officials, the case against Wani involves violations of Sections 8, 20, and 29 of the NDPS Act. These sections deal with the cultivation, possession, and conspiracy related to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The authorities had gathered sufficient evidence indicating that the attached property was purchased using profits from illegal narcotics trade.

Legal Action Under NDPS Act
The action was taken under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, which empower law enforcement agencies to attach properties derived from drug-related earnings. Under these provisions, any property suspected to be bought through drug money can be seized, pending court approval.
As per officials, after attachment, the property cannot be sold, leased, or transferred without explicit permission from a designated court. This provision ensures that drug traffickers do not benefit from proceeds of crime and also acts as a deterrent to others engaged in similar illegal activities.
Ongoing Crackdown Against Narcotics
This attachment forms part of a broader strategy by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to target not just drug traffickers but also their financial assets. Over the past year, law enforcement agencies have intensified their operations against narcotics networks, seizing large quantities of contraband and identifying properties acquired through illegal means.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate by sharing information about drug peddling activities through dedicated helpline numbers and local police stations. Officials reiterated their commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that those involved in the drug trade are held accountable both legally and financially.

Community Impact and Public Response
Local residents have expressed relief at the action, calling it a much-needed measure to curb the rising drug problem in the valley. Community leaders and civil society members have extended their support to the police’s anti-narcotics drive, emphasizing the importance of protecting younger generations from the dangers of substance abuse.
Many hope this will serve as a warning to others engaged in similar illicit activities and that law enforcement will continue to prioritize such crackdowns to preserve public order and safety in Jammu and Kashmir.
