A bizarre and alarming incident has surfaced from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, where a newlywed bride disappeared mysteriously just a day after her wedding. The family alleges she fled with gold and silver jewellery worth around ₹2 lakh, along with expensive clothes and personal belongings. The case has triggered widespread curiosity in the village, with locals dubbing her the “mystery bride.”
Lavish wedding on November 24
According to the family, Govind, a resident of Bakenia village in the Naimisharanya police station area, tied the knot with Manju, from Kali Jagdishpur in Sant Kabir Nagar, on 24 November. The ceremony was conducted with full traditional customs and celebrations. The bride was welcomed joyfully into her new home, and festive mood filled the household.
But the happiness lasted less than 48 hours.
Shock on the second morning
As per Govind and his family:
- Everyone went to sleep normally the day after the wedding.
- When the groom woke up the next morning, the bride had vanished.
- The family searched every corner of the house, terrace and courtyard — but no trace of Manju.
Neighbours were questioned, yet no one claimed to have seen her leaving.
Bride’s family denies knowledge
The groom’s family contacted Manju’s relatives, only to be told that they too had no information about her whereabouts.
This deepened suspicion that the disappearance was pre-planned.
Jewellery missing from the house
Upon checking the cupboards, the family found:
- Gold and silver jewellery missing
- Costly new wedding outfits gone
- Personal valuables also taken
- Estimated loss: ₹2 lakh
The family says this theft, coupled with her sudden disappearance, has left them devastated.
Police investigating fraud angle
The family lodged a complaint at Naimisharanya police station. Police have registered a missing person case, but given the valuables involved, the fraud and criminal conspiracy angle is also under scrutiny.
Police actions so far:
- Bride’s mobile number placed under surveillance
- Search operations in Sitapur and nearby areas
- Contacting relatives and acquaintances linked to the bride
Officials say technical analysis may soon provide leads.
Fake marriage syndicate suspected
Police sources say similar incidents have risen in recent years —
where organised gangs marry victims only to loot jewellery and disappear.
Investigators are probing whether this incident is linked to such a network.
Village abuzz with speculation
Locals are stunned by how smoothly the plan appears executed.
They believe the behaviour of the bride during the wedding never raised suspicion.
People are whispering:
“This wasn’t a bride… this was a whole plan.” “Why would a woman leave her husband and new home overnight without any reason?”
Victim’s family seeks justice
Govind and his family are distraught. They hope Manju is traced soon —
and if this is a crime, those behind it are punished.
Alarming trend
The case has reignited concerns over rising “runaway bride frauds” in rural regions, where families are targeted through manipulated marriages.
Sitapur Police say they are actively pursuing leads and expect a breakthrough in the coming days.
