A cybercrime case that shook multiple Indian cities took a new turn this week as Jaipur Police prepared to interrogate a 30-year-old robotics expert accused of orchestrating a series of bomb threat hoaxes. Rene Joshilda, arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell, is believed to be behind at least 65 hoax emails targeting schools, hospitals, court complexes, and public venues, including during the high-security IPL season.

Who Is Rene Joshilda?

Rene Joshilda, currently employed as a senior consultant in robotics at a private firm, was taken into custody on suspicion of using her technical skills to carry out coordinated cyber hoaxes. According to law enforcement, she allegedly sent at least four bomb threat emails targeting Jaipur’s SMS Stadium and other high-profile venues last month.

Police are now examining her digital trail, linking her to threats sent to various government and public spaces across India, including courtrooms and metro stations.

Scale of the Threats and Key Targets

According to preliminary estimates, Jaipur alone received over 65 hoax emails in 2025. These included bomb threats directed at schools, SMS Hospital, hotels, medical colleges, and Jaipur International Airport.

Police say Joshilda sent threats between May 8 and May 13, and another on May 18 falsely claimed attacks at Tonk Road Family Court, Metro Court in Bani Park, and a metro station in Mansarovar. Each incident triggered emergency protocols and panic, though none of the threats were found credible.

High-Tech Methods to Evade Detection

Investigators revealed that Joshilda had purchased at least 80 virtual mobile numbers and employed VPN services to mask her location. She reportedly created multiple email accounts, many under male aliases, and used spoofed IDs to confuse cyber sleuths.

“Her digital footprint was carefully concealed using advanced anonymization techniques,” an official said, adding that she relied on cyber tools often used in more sophisticated financial frauds and espionage operations.

Jaipur Police Now Take the Lead

With Ahmedadabad authorities uncovering the technical groundwork, Jaipur Police are set to interrogate Joshilda about local threats. A senior police officer said she will be questioned in connection with threats sent to Jaipur’s hospitals and public infrastructure.

“Given the nature of the hoax and its impact on public order and safety, we are treating this case with utmost seriousness,” the officer added.

Authorities are also investigating whether Joshilda acted alone or was part of a broader network misusing cyber tools to create fear and disruption.
