Former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief and retired IPS officer T Prabhakar Rao, the prime accused in a high-profile phone-tapping case, has reportedly sought political asylum in the United States. While there has been no official confirmation from the police department, sources reveal that Rao has appealed to the US government to grant him status as a “political refugee.”

According to insiders, Rao cited harassment by the Indian authorities in his petition. The retired officer claims that despite serving in key government roles, he is being unfairly targeted. Rao is currently residing in Florida with his son and is reportedly undergoing treatment for cancer.

The Telangana Police have been actively pursuing Rao’s return to India and have sought a Red Corner Notice from INTERPOL. The phone-tapping case was registered at the Panjagutta police station on March 10, and Rao is alleged to have fled the country on March 11, just one day after the case was filed.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the police have arrested four individuals. These arrests mark significant developments in the case, which has drawn widespread attention due to its implications on privacy and misuse of authority.

Rao’s move to seek political asylum adds another layer of complexity to the already sensational case. His claims of persecution and deteriorating health may influence the legal proceedings, both in the US and India. The Telangana Police, however, remain determined to bring Rao back to face charges, as the case continues to unfold.

This incident has sparked debates about accountability and justice, especially when allegations are leveled against individuals with a history of serving in critical government positions.
