New Delhi: In a shocking incident, thousands of people have fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme involving an app named “HiBox,” leading to a scam worth Rs 100 crores. The app, which falsely promised users the chance to earn substantial profits, managed to deceive a significant number of people. The company behind the app employed well-known actresses and YouTubers for its promotion, further contributing to its widespread reach.

This new scam trend has once again raised concerns among security agencies, who urge people to be cautious of such enticing offers. The fraudulent app operated by encouraging users to invest sums ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 1 lakh, promising them a “box” in return. Upon opening these boxes, users found items that were only valuable within the app’s platform. These items could only be sold back within the app’s ecosystem, which led to more people getting involved in the scam, hoping to make a profit.

One victim, Virendra Kumar from Gokulpuri, shared his ordeal, explaining that he and his sons purchased several boxes from the app in July but never received any actual goods or returns. They ended up losing Rs 3 lakhs to the scheme.

The cybercrime unit of the police has registered multiple cases related to this scam, with over 20 complaints already filed. Authorities are now investigating the involvement of various YouTubers and social media influencers who promoted the app, some of whom allegedly received large sums of money for their endorsements. The police are preparing to summon these individuals for questioning as part of the investigation.
