Professor Duped of Rs 85 Lakhs in Online Stock Scam with Fake Profit Dashboard

ALIGARH: The web of cyber fraudsters in Aligarh continues to expand, with criminals using new tactics to deceive people. A recent case involves a college professor who was swindled out of Rs 85 lakh by cybercriminals, who lured him into a fake investment scheme. The scammers promised high returns through stock market investments, but when the professor found himself unable to retrieve his funds and lost contact with them, he realized he had been duped.
Modus Operandi:
The professor, who lives in the Civil Lines area and works at a well-known city college, was first approached on WhatsApp around August 7. The cyber fraudsters offered him an opportunity to invest in the stock market, promising significant profits. Initially, the professor was persuaded to invest Rs 40,000 in a bank account provided by the scammers. A few days later, they showed him a profit of Rs 10,000, though he didn’t withdraw the amount at that time. Encouraged by this, the professor gradually invested more, eventually putting in Rs 85 lakh.

When the professor later requested the withdrawal of his returns, the fraudsters stalled communication, and all contact had ceased. Realizing he had been scammed, the professor filed a complaint at the local police station.
The Cyber Police Station is now preparing to register a formal case, and investigations are underway.
