Mumbai | The RK Family Trust, which has been a focal point of discussion in both Bollywood and business circles, is back in the spotlight amid a new development in the ongoing estate dispute. Priya Sachdev Kapur, who serves as both a trustee and beneficiary of the trust, has formally issued a notice removing Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, from her position as trustee. The notice is effective from March 25, 2026, having been communicated on March 24, 2026.
According to sources, the RK Family Trust was established in 2017 as a private and irrevocable trust. During his lifetime, the late Sunjay Kapur was its sole beneficiary. Following his passing in June 2025, the beneficial interests are now held by his children—Master Azarias Suri Kapur, Ms. Samaira Kapur, and Master Kiaan Kapur.

The notice raises concerns about certain actions allegedly undertaken by Rani Kapur in relation to the trust’s obligations and asset management. It also references an earlier cease-and-desist notice issued in January 2026. In her communication, Priya Sachdev Kapur stressed that these actions contravene the trust deed and the provisions of the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, and are not aligned with the interests of the beneficiaries. Citing Clause 8.11 of the trust deed, she formally notified Rani Kapur’s removal as trustee.
The notice further clarifies that, effective March 25, 2026, Rani Kapur will have no authority to represent the trust or intervene in its assets, documents, or affairs. It also warns that any actions undertaken in the trust’s name after this date will be deemed invalid, and legal remedies are reserved in case of non-compliance.
This move comes against the backdrop of a longstanding dispute between the parties. Rani Kapur had previously approached the Delhi High Court, challenging the validity of the trust and seeking relief concerning its assets. Reports also suggest that Rani Kapur had taken steps affecting the trusteeship, which could impact Priya Sachdev Kapur’s position. The conflict over trust administration and control has become increasingly apparent between the two sides.
Experts note that disputes over large family trusts and multi-billion-rupee estates are not uncommon. Legally, the provisions of the trust deed and the Indian Trusts Act play a crucial role in resolving such conflicts. Through this notice, Priya Sachdev Kapur appears to be safeguarding the rights of the beneficiaries and ensuring proper management of trust decisions and assets.
The development has generated widespread speculation within both the entertainment and business communities. Media reports suggest that the move reflects deeper familial disagreements and ongoing disputes over the estate following Sunjay Kapur’s passing. With both sides claiming authority over trust operations and beneficiary rights, all eyes will remain on forthcoming court decisions.
The action by Priya Sachdev Kapur regarding the RK Family Trust has not only intensified the estate dispute but also attracted significant media and public attention. Legal advice and adherence to the trust deed’s provisions are crucial in such matters to ensure a fair resolution.
