The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) has agreed to pay £15 million( approx. Rs. 173 crore) to nearly 20,000 current and former police officers whose personal details were compromised in two significant cyber attacks six years ago. The settlement, which includes legal and insurance costs, brings an end to a prolonged legal battle and provides financial certainty for the organization.

Cyber Attacks Sparked Widespread Concern

The cyber attacks, which occurred in the past, resulted in the exposure of sensitive information, including names, email addresses, National Insurance numbers, and ranks of around 120,000 police officers. The breach sparked widespread concern among rank-and-file officers, who feared for their safety. The PFEW has acknowledged that the settlement will allow the organization to move forward and focus on serving its members.
