Patna: Police have arrested three people in Patna for allegedly running a nationwide cyberfraud network that duped victims by posing as bank and financial institution officials. The accused allegedly lured people through fake offers of loan approvals, ATM PIN generation, credit card limit upgrades and reward point redemption before using sensitive banking details to carry out fraudulent transactions.

Raids Conducted Across Patna Locations

According to officials, the arrested accused have been identified as Gaurav Raj, Sapna Kumari from Nalanda district and 20-year-old Nikhil Kumar, a resident of Kankarbagh in Patna. The operation was carried out jointly by the Cyber Crime Security Unit and the Cyber Police Station after technical inputs linked the suspects to suspicious cyber activities.

Police conducted raids at several locations, including Navneet Nagar, Ranipur Mehndiganj and Ashok Nagar ward number 11 in Kankarbagh. During the searches, officials recovered mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, ATM cards, SIM cards and a laptop.

The seized devices and documents are being examined to gather further evidence and identify additional links connected to the alleged fraud network.

Bank Impersonation Used To Trap Victims

Investigators said the accused contacted victims by pretending to represent banks and financial institutions. They allegedly offered services such as instant loan approvals, ATM PIN generation, credit card limit enhancement and reward point redemption.

Once victims shared confidential banking information, the accused allegedly used the details to make unauthorized transactions. Officials said the group relied on social engineering tactics, using trust and urgency to persuade people to reveal sensitive information.

Cyber DSP Nitish Chandra Dhariya said preliminary investigation has linked the gang to more than 400 complaints registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Police said the number of complaints indicates the wide reach and organised nature of the operation across India.

Two Suspects Still Absconding

Officials said two more suspects linked to the gang are absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them. Police believe the group functioned as a coordinated cybercrime network targeting victims across different states.

After their arrest, the three accused were produced before court and sent to judicial custody. Police teams are continuing raids based on leads gathered during interrogation.

Cyber experts are analyzing the seized digital material to assess the scale of the fraud, identify more victims and determine whether the gang had links with other interstate cybercrime modules. Further investigation is underway, and more arrests are expected as the network is traced.
