Smartphone maker OnePlus has denied rumours of shutting down its India operations following the resignation of its India CEO Robin Liu, amid growing speculation about the company’s global strategy.
Liu, who has been leading the company’s India operations, is set to step down effective March 31, 2026. The company stated that he is leaving to pursue personal interests, while thanking him for his contributions to the brand’s growth in one of its key markets.
Company Rejects Shutdown Speculation
The leadership exit triggered fresh rumours about a possible shutdown of OnePlus operations in India and other markets. However, the company has categorically denied such claims, reiterating that its India business will continue without disruption.
In earlier statements, Liu had himself dismissed such reports as “misinformation,” asserting that the company is “operating as usual” and urging stakeholders to rely only on verified sources.
OnePlus has again clarified that there are no immediate plans to shut down operations in India, and that business continuity will be maintained under its existing local strategy.

Exit Comes Amid Global Restructuring Buzz
The timing of Liu’s resignation has drawn attention as it coincides with reports of restructuring within OnePlus’ parent ecosystem, led by OPPO.
Industry reports suggest that the restructuring aims to optimise resources, reduce operational costs, and streamline product development in response to evolving market conditions and declining shipments in recent periods.
Speculation has also emerged that OnePlus may scale down its presence in certain international markets, particularly in Europe and the US, although no official confirmation has been made regarding such moves.
India Remains A Key Market
Despite global uncertainties, India continues to be a critical market for OnePlus. The company has indicated that its local operations, product launches, and customer support systems will continue as planned.
Recent and upcoming product lines, particularly in the mid-range segment, signal that the company is maintaining its focus on the Indian consumer base.
Liu’s departure has also led to a surge in online searches and speculation about the company’s future, reflecting broader concerns about stability within the brand.
Experts note that while executive exits are not uncommon, such changes during periods of restructuring often amplify uncertainty, especially in highly competitive sectors like consumer electronics.
No Immediate Impact On Users
For existing users and customers, the company has assured that there will be no disruption in services, product support, or operations in India.
The situation, however, continues to be closely watched as further developments in OnePlus’ global restructuring strategy unfold.
