The Odisha government has suspended IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao following allegations of grave misconduct. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of July 27, when Pandit allegedly entered the home of a married woman inspector without permission and behaved inappropriately with her and her husband. This action led to immediate disciplinary measures.

Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, a 51-year-old officer from the 2007 IPS batch, is currently serving as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of fire services and home guard. The state home department issued an order stating that the Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha submitted a confidential report against Pandit, leading to his suspension.

The order cited the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules of 1969, which the government used to enforce the suspension with immediate effect. The home department’s directive emphasizes that this action is a result of Pandit’s alleged grave misconduct.

Sources revealed that the Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, was briefed about the incident upon his return from New Delhi. He instructed prompt action in this matter. Although no formal police complaint has been filed, police sources indicate that the woman inspector’s husband was allegedly attacked during the incident, leading to Pandit’s detainment by police officials.

During his suspension, Pandit will be stationed at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack and is prohibited from leaving the premises without the DGP’s permission. Efforts to contact Pandit for a comment have been unsuccessful.
