Noida Commissioner IPS Laxmi Singh has initiated a major crackdown on corrupt police officers in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district. This action led to the suspension and transfer of several high-ranking officials, including the DCP and SHO, following an incident involving extortion from a cab driver. The sweeping changes have sent shockwaves through the Noida Police Department, as multiple officers face severe consequences for their involvement.
Noida: In a significant and bold move, Noida Commissioner of Police, IPS Laxmi Singh, has taken strict action against corrupt practices within the police force in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. This comes in response to an alarming incident where a cab driver was extorted and harassed by police officers, leading to a wide-ranging shakeup in the Noida Police Department.
The crackdown began after a cab driver from Baghpat, Rakesh Tomar, lodged a written complaint with the Police Commissioner. The incident in question occurred on the night of August 2nd, when Tomar was driving from Delhi’s Panchsheel Vihar to Noida’s Gaur City. According to his complaint, two vehicles intercepted him, and five people, including uniformed police officers, forcefully extorted money from him. The cab driver alleged that he was taken to a secluded area, where he and his female passenger were harassed and robbed of Rs 7,000. The perpetrators then forced him to pay an additional Rs 500 before letting him go. Shocked by the experience, Tomar reported the incident to the police control room.

Upon receiving the complaint, Commissioner Laxmi Singh swiftly launched an investigation. The inquiry revealed that the officers involved were from the Bisrakh police station. The findings led to the suspension and transfer of several officers, including the SHO of Bisrakh. The implicated officers, Amit Mishra and his two accomplices, were taken into custody, and their vehicles, a Scorpio and a Hyundai Venue, were seized as part of the investigation. The accused Amit Mishra was subsequently dismissed from service under the stringent provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Police Act.
Further complicating the situation, DCP Suniti, responsible for overseeing the area, was removed from her position for failing to take timely action and attempting to suppress the matter for two days. In her place, Shakti Mohan Avasti has been appointed as the new DCP Central Noida. Additionally, several station in-charges and inspectors have been transferred or suspended, signaling a broader effort to clean up the police force.
This series of actions by Commissioner Laxmi Singh has sent ripples through the Noida Police Department, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misuse of power. The crackdown has not only led to immediate dismissals and suspensions but also initiated a cultural shift within the department, with officers now being held accountable for their actions more than ever before.
The police department’s efforts to resolve the issue included attempts by certain officers to reach a settlement with the victim by returning the stolen money. However, the cab driver refused to accept the settlement, demanding justice and transparency. Commissioner Singh’s decisive measures reflect a commitment to restoring public trust in law enforcement and ensuring that justice is served.
The impact of these actions is expected to reverberate throughout the district, reinforcing the message that corruption will not be tolerated within the ranks of the police. Commissioner Laxmi Singh’s leadership during this crisis highlights the importance of integrity and accountability in upholding the law.
