A major administrative lapse has surfaced at Noida District Hospital in Gautam Buddh Nagar. Through the government GEM (Government e-Marketplace) portal, the hospital mistakenly ordered 60,000 syringes designed for animals, instead of for human use. The error went unnoticed for one and a half months. Had these been used on patients, it could have posed serious health risks.
Sources revealed that all orders on the GEM portal were managed by a single employee. Since the employee had login credentials, the order was directly entered into the system. The error went undetected for one and a half months at all levels. Once discovered, the stock was returned to the agency without being received by the hospital store.

CMS Office Oversight Fails
Sources added that even the acting CMS office failed to detect this critical mistake for over a month. Officials and staff reportedly tried to suppress the issue. The case was only brought to light due to the vigilance of a pharmacist.
The acting CMS stated that the wrong order was a clerical error on the GEM portal. Officials also noted that there were four levels of verification before bill payment, yet the mistake went undetected at all stages.
Order Cancelled After 1.5 Months, Agency Warned
According to media reports, the agency in Lucknow received the order on 25 December 2025. The order was cancelled on the GEM portal only after one and a half months. The agency has been issued a warning, and officials indicated that blacklisting the agency could also be considered.
It has been clarified that no patient received these animal syringes, preventing any serious harm. Experts said that had the error occurred during treatment, it could have endangered patients’ lives.
Difference Between Animal and Human Syringes
Experts explained that animal syringes are thicker, longer, and larger than standard medical syringes. They are single-use and have a non-thin needle. Using them on humans could lead to overdose or other serious side effects.
The pharmacist immediately recognized the mistake upon opening the boxes and informed senior officials. The stock was returned directly to the agency. Sources indicated that the possibility of collusion in this case is also under investigation.
Hospital Administration Under Scrutiny
The seriousness of the incident is highlighted by the fact that no one checked the order after it was submitted on the GEM portal. The acting CMS and other officials reportedly focused on shielding staff and suppressing the matter.
Experts and sources emphasized that transparency and timely oversight are crucial in such cases. The one-and-a-half-month lapse not only posed a risk to patient safety but also exposed clear administrative negligence.
The hospital administration termed it a clerical error and has initiated an investigation against the responsible employee. However, no strict action has been reported so far.
