Fake Company Used To Cheat Government
Noida Police’s Cyber Crime Unit has arrested a man accused of defrauding the government of ₹1.8 crore by creating a fake company and using forged GST invoices. The accused has been identified as Abhinav Tyagi, a resident of Moradabad. During the raid, police recovered four mobile phones, eight SIM cards and documents of a fake rent agreement.
Officials said the case came to light after a company filed a complaint. According to the complaint, Abhinav, who was working in the company’s accounts department, conspired with others to commit the fraud. He first won the trust of the management and then cleverly inserted his own mobile number and email ID into confidential records. Later, he prepared a fake rent agreement and used it to set up a bogus paper company.

How The Fraud Was Executed
Investigators revealed that with the help of this fake company, Abhinav filed a GST claim worth ₹1.8 crore. Once the amount was transferred into the account, he disappeared. His fraudulent actions not only caused a significant loss to government revenue but also highlighted how insiders misuse their access to confidential company information to plan such crimes.
Expert Opinion On GST Frauds
Cybercrime expert and former IPS officer Professor Triveni Singh explained that the rise of digitisation in GST and e-invoicing systems has created opportunities for criminals. Fraudsters often create shell companies, show fake transactions and wrongfully claim tax credits. According to him, such activities harm genuine businesses by affecting their credibility and competitiveness. Singh stressed that companies need stronger internal audits and the GST department must adopt tighter verification mechanisms to curb such scams.
Probe Continues
Police have registered a case and are now tracking other accomplices who may have helped Abhinav in this network. The Cyber Crime Unit said they are examining the structure of this racket to find out how widespread the fraud was and whether more companies or individuals are linked to it.
