Motihari: The National Investigation Agency has questioned a Bihar-based accused for nearly five hours as part of its investigation into an alleged human trafficking and international cyber fraud network linked to the Cambodia job scam. During the operation, family members were also questioned, while officials examined various documents and digital records. Investigators collected information regarding the accused’s bank transactions, foreign travel, mobile call records, active social media accounts and communications conducted through different digital platforms.

Mobile Phone Seized For Forensic Analysis

The agency has seized Kalamuddin’s mobile phone for forensic examination. Investigators will analyse chats, call records, documents and other digital evidence stored on the device to determine its relevance to the ongoing investigation.

The NIA said further legal action will depend on the outcome of forensic analysis and other evidence collected during the probe.

According to the preliminary investigation, the accused is alleged to have been associated with a network that lured Indian youths with promises of lucrative overseas employment before sending them to Cambodia.

Investigators allege that Kalamuddin facilitated the process of sending individuals abroad through contacts in Gopalganj and also assisted in arranging travel and ticket bookings for those travelling to Cambodia.

Investigators further allege that several Indian nationals taken to Cambodia were later held against their will and forced to work in fraudulent call centres engaged in cyber fraud, digital scams and other online criminal activities. Those who resisted were allegedly subjected to harassment and prevented from returning to India. These allegations remain under investigation.

The NIA said several cases have surfaced in recent years in which Indian job seekers were allegedly lured to Southeast Asian countries, particularly Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos, with promises of employment before being forced into cyber fraud operations.

The investigation remains ongoing. The NIA stated that further legal action will be determined after analysing the available digital evidence and other material collected during the probe. The allegations against the accused are yet to be established before the competent court through due judicial process.
