Ghaziabad | December 24, 2025 | A viral video linked to the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail has moved well beyond the realm of social media outrage and into the domain of legal action, public discipline, and digital responsibility. In connection with an obscene video allegedly recorded inside a Namo Bharat train, a case has been registered against a student and a female student at the Muradnagar police station in Ghaziabad. The action follows a formal complaint by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

The video surfaced on social media about a week ago and quickly went viral, triggering sharp reactions from commuters and the wider public. The incident raised serious concerns about passenger safety, public decency, and discipline in a modern mass transit system that has been positioned as a flagship rapid rail service for the National Capital Region.

Soon after the video came to light, NCRTC took cognisance of the matter, initiated an internal inquiry, and stepped up efforts to identify the individuals involved.

Video recorded inside the Namo Bharat train

According to NCRTC officials, the preliminary inquiry confirmed that the viral video was shot inside a Namo Bharat train. The footage allegedly showed objectionable conduct by the student and the female student, an act that not only offended public sensibilities but also raised questions about adherence to rules inside public transport systems.

NCRTC officials said the corporation is committed to developing Namo Bharat as a safe, modern, and disciplined rapid rail service, and such incidents run contrary to that objective. “Any act that undermines the dignity and safety of passengers is unacceptable,” an official said.

Students identified; notices sent to colleges

Following verification, the identities of both individuals seen in the video were established. The male student is pursuing a BTech degree, while the female student is enrolled in a BCA programme. They are reported to be studying at different colleges.

NCRTC, in coordination with the district administration, has issued formal notices to the managements of both colleges, seeking explanations and appropriate action. College authorities have also begun internal processes to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the students.

Officials said educational institutions are expected to play a role in reinforcing responsible behaviour among students, both online and in public spaces.

Immediate action after video went viral

As the video spread widely across social media platforms, demands for strict action grew louder. NCRTC responded by taking swift administrative steps, including terminating the services of the operator who allegedly played a role in the video being recorded or circulated.

NCRTC officials said the move was intended to send a clear message that violations of rules or facilitation of inappropriate content within public transport systems will invite zero tolerance.

FIR registered after a week-long probe

To ensure proper identification of the accused, NCRTC and the police carried out technical and field-level investigations. Once the identities were firmly established, NCRTC lodged an FIR at the Muradnagar police station, nearly a week after the video first went viral.

The complaint was filed by Dushyant Kumar, an official of the maintenance agency DERRCT. Police have registered cases not only against the student and the female student but also against the Namo Bharat train operator Rishabh Kumar.

Police investigation underway

Commenting on the case, ACP (Masuri Circle) Lipi Nagayach said that FIRs have been registered under the relevant sections of law and a detailed investigation is in progress. “Further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe,” she said.

Police are also examining the motive behind recording the video, the social media platforms on which it was uploaded, and whether any other individuals were involved in filming or disseminating the content.

Debate on digital behaviour and public decency

Experts believe the incident is not merely about a viral video but reflects broader issues related to digital behaviour, the race for online visibility, and responsibility in public spaces. The pursuit of viral content, they argue, often leads to a disregard for rules, privacy, and public decorum.

They warn that ignoring norms for social media popularity can result in serious legal and social consequences.

The Ghaziabad incident once again underscores that discipline and adherence to the law in public transport are non-negotiable, and that every action taken in the digital space carries clear legal and social accountability.
