A large-scale operation to dismantle illegal buildings and curb online fraud networks in Myanmar’s KK Park and Shwe Kokko regions has led to the demolition of more than 300 structures and the sealing of over 160 others. The coordinated crackdown, involving security forces and local administrative bodies, is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle transnational criminal hubs operating along the Myawady border.

Hundreds of Illegal Structures Demolished in KK Park

According to official sources, a total of 321 illegal buildings inside the KK Park area have been demolished as part of the campaign. The government has been working jointly with security forces and administrative organisations to remove illegally constructed properties, confiscate relevant materials, and stamp out criminal infrastructure linked to online scams.

As of December 6, 321 out of 635 illegal buildings in KK Park had been torn down. In parallel, structures used for online fraud in nearby Shwe Kokko were also destroyed, with seized equipment burned on-site to prevent future use.

Fresh Demolitions Add to Expanding Crackdown

On Sunday, authorities demolished 13 more buildings in the Myawady–Mae Htaw Tha Lay (KK Park) Zone 3 area, comprising ten two-storey and three four-storey structures. This brought the cumulative tally in that section to 173 demolitions out of 425 identified illegal buildings.

Additional inspections uncovered illegal online fraud and gambling operations in Ward No. 3 of Myawady Township, where eight buildings—five three-storey and three single-storey—were removed. A separate sweep added three more demolitions, taking the total to five in that locality.

Buildings Used for Fraud Sealed and Confiscated

Authorities have also intensified inspections of facilities suspected of hosting online scam networks. Since November 18, inspections across Shwe Kokko have covered 694 buildings. Of these, 169 were found to be used in online fraud or gambling activities.

To curb reactivation of these centres, 161 buildings have been sealed and barred from further use, in addition to confiscation and destruction of associated electronic equipment.

Arrests Target Foreign Nationals in Scam Operations

Security forces in Myawady have expanded the crackdown to include random searches around Mae Htaw Tha Lay Village, a known hotspot for online scam activity. During recent operations, 96 Chinese nationals allegedly involved in illegal online gambling and fraud were detained. Authorities say arrests and prosecution of offenders are ongoing.

Myanmar Government Vows Continued Action

Officials stated that the destruction of illegal structures and criminal facilities forms part of a broader national effort to combat online gambling fraud, which the government views as a serious threat. Coordination with local forces and neighbouring countries will continue to ensure these networks cannot re-establish themselves along the border.
