New revelations have emerged in the investigation into an alleged ₹9.80 lakh fraud in Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh involving a woman accused of posing as an IAS officer.
After the arrest of main accused Tripti Singh Rajput and her brother Sudhanshu Singh, investigators conducted searches at their residence and in-laws’ house in Bhopal. During the searches, police reportedly recovered mementos allegedly associated with a trainee IAS officer, copies of documents linked to the complainant and an Innova car carrying a “Government of India” strip.
The case came to light on August 23, 2026, when Jai Kumar Koli and his associates filed a complaint at Chanderi police station in Ashoknagar district. The complainants alleged that the accused had posed as IAS officers and cheated them of ₹9.80 lakh. Based on the complaint, police arrested Bhopal residents Tripti Singh Rajput and her brother Sudhanshu Singh.

Search Conducted in Bhopal During Police Remand
After obtaining police remand, investigators took the accused to Bhopal and searched their residence in Bag Mugalia. Several photocopies of documents related to the case were reportedly recovered from the premises.
According to the investigation, the documents were allegedly obtained from the complainant side. The recovered material has been seized and included in the investigation. Investigators are examining how the documents were used and whether they were intended to make the accused’s alleged government identity appear genuine and credible.
Alleged Trainee IAS Mementos Recovered From In-Laws’ House
Police also searched Tripti Singh Rajput’s in-laws’ residence in Alkapuri. During the search, investigators reportedly recovered several mementos allegedly connected with a trainee IAS officer.
Investigators suspect that the items may have been used to create an impression of official authority and strengthen the accused’s alleged identity as an administrative officer. The mementos have been seized as potential evidence.
Police are now examining where the items came from and whether they were deliberately used to influence people or establish the credibility of the alleged fake identity.
Innova Carrying ‘Government of India’ Strip Seized
Another significant development came with the recovery of an Innova allegedly used in the case. The vehicle had a “Government of India” strip attached to it.
According to the allegations, Tripti and her brother used the luxury vehicle to project an influential official image and reinforce their claimed government connections. Police have seized the vehicle and are examining documents related to its ownership and use.
Driver Also Detained for Questioning
Police have also detained the driver of the Innova, identified as Bhupendra Bairagi, a resident of Ayodhya Nagar in Bhopal. Investigators are questioning him to determine how much he knew about the vehicle’s use, the “Government of India” strip and the alleged identities presented by the accused. His exact role and any possible connection with the alleged fraud will be determined on the basis of questioning and other evidence.
Investigation Finds Clues About Expensive Lifestyle
The investigation has also uncovered evidence relating to the accused’s alleged lifestyle. Police reportedly found indications that the accused stayed at expensive hotels and travelled by air.
Investigators are examining these expenses and their sources to determine how the money was financed. They are also looking into whether any portion of the alleged fraud proceeds was used to fund such expenses.
Missing Original Documents Raise Suspicion
During the searches, investigators reportedly found photocopies rather than original documents at several locations. This has raised suspicion that some original documents connected with the case may have been destroyed or concealed.
On this basis, police have added Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the case, relating to the concealment or destruction of evidence. The Chanderi police investigation is continuing. A key focus is to determine whether the alleged fake IAS identity was used only in the present case or whether a wider network was involved. Investigators are also examining the accused’s contacts and looking for any other individuals who may have participated in the alleged fraud.
