Meta’s AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses are finally arriving in India, priced from ₹29,990. Set to go on sale May 19, the stylish eyewear blends fashion with functionality—offering live translation, real-time video queries, music playback, and hands-free messaging. But will the absence of Indian language support hold back its mainstream appeal?
A New Era of Wearable AI Begins in India
Meta’s long-awaited Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are officially entering the Indian market, with sales starting on May 19, 2025, at a launch price of ₹29,990 (approx. $353). The product is already available for pre-order on Ray-Ban’s official website and will be stocked at Ray-Ban stores across the country on release day.
Developed in partnership with the iconic eyewear brand, the smart glasses combine Meta’s AI technology with Ray-Ban’s timeless design. The result is a device that allows users to do everything from taking photos and live-streaming video to translating languages and sending messages—hands-free.
At its core is Meta AI, the company’s proprietary artificial intelligence assistant. Integrated into the eyewear’s camera and audio system, it allows the wearer to ask questions about what’s in front of them, translate text or speech in real time, make phone calls, and compose messages, all with voice commands.

Smarter Than Sunglasses: Features That Redefine Everyday Tech
The glasses are always-on but privacy-conscious, featuring an LED indicator that lights up when the camera is active. They offer:
- Live translation in English, French, Italian, and Spanish, even offline
- Real-time visual recognition, allowing the AI to describe surroundings or objects
- Hands-free calling and message dictation
- Integration with Spotify, Amazon Music, Shazam, and Apple Music for audio streaming
- A 12 MP camera for taking photos or live streaming to social media platforms
- Built-in speakers and microphones, enabling phone-free communication
However, support for Indian languages is currently missing, a notable gap given India’s linguistic diversity. Meta has not confirmed a timeline for adding Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, or other regional languages, though market experts expect localization to arrive in future updates.
The glasses pair with your smartphone via the Meta View app, acting as a controller and storage hub for content captured on the go. They come in multiple frame styles—including Wayfarer and Headliner—and are available in both clear and tinted lenses.
Two Million Units and Counting: Can India Drive the Next Wave?
Since their global launch in 2023, Meta has sold around 2 million units of the smart glasses, and India’s introduction marks a strategic push into one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer tech markets.
Industry insiders view this as Meta’s attempt to build a foothold in the wearable tech space, currently dominated by smartwatches and fitness bands. Unlike traditional AR or VR headsets, Meta’s Ray-Ban collaboration is aimed at mainstream users, making AI-powered features part of daily life—discreetly and stylishly.

“This is not just about tech, it’s about lifestyle,” said a Meta spokesperson. “India is a natural next step—young, tech-savvy, and looking for smart devices that fit seamlessly into everyday routines.”
However, data privacy and AI surveillance concerns are already being raised by digital rights groups, especially given the integration of cameras and microphones into everyday fashion items.
Meta has assured users that data stays private, and the glasses will require explicit permissions to activate certain features like location-based services or live-streaming.
