Meta has introduced Muse Spark, a new artificial intelligence model designed to power its next generation of AI products and compete with leading systems from companies like OpenAI and Google. Developed by Meta Platforms’ dedicated AI division, the model marks a significant shift toward building AI that can reason, act, and assist users in real-world tasks.

A New Foundation for Meta’s AI Ecosystem

Muse Spark is the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, a unit created to accelerate advanced AI development. Unlike earlier models such as Llama, Muse Spark is built from scratch and designed to become the core engine behind Meta AI across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The model is intentionally smaller and faster, yet capable of solving complex problems in areas like science, mathematics, and health. This makes it suitable for both quick queries and deeper reasoning tasks.

One of Muse Spark’s most notable innovations is its multi-agent capability. Instead of handling tasks in a linear way, the model can deploy multiple AI agents simultaneously to solve different parts of a problem.

This is supported by a feature often referred to as “Contemplating Mode,” where the AI coordinates several processes in parallel—similar to how a team works together on a task.

For example, when planning a trip, one agent might create an itinerary, another compares destinations, and a third finds activities—all at once.

Multimodal Capabilities and Real-World Understanding

Muse Spark is a multimodal AI model, meaning it can understand not just text, but also images and real-world context.

Users can interact with it by:

  • Uploading images (e.g., identifying food or products)
  • Asking complex real-world questions
  • Getting recommendations based on visual input

This allows the AI to “see and understand the world,” moving beyond traditional chatbot interactions.

Integration Across Meta Platforms

Currently available through the Meta AI app and website, Muse Spark is expected to expand across Meta’s ecosystem, including social media platforms and even AI-powered glasses.

The model also introduces features like:
