Meet Aman Pandey, The Indian Cybersecurity Researcher Who Aced Google’s Android Bug Bounty Program

Aman Pandey, an Indian cybersecurity researcher and the founder and CEO of Bugsmirror, was one of the top researchers of Google’s Vulnerability Reward Program (VRP) last year, according to Google. Last year, Pandey discovered and reported 232 vulnerabilities in Android.

According to the blog article, he has been reporting issues since 2019 and has reported over 280 valid vulnerabilities to the Android application.
Most tech giants, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and others, pay researchers to find any ‘bugs’ or software issues in their products. The awards are known as the ‘Bugs Bounty.’

According to Google, it has paid out $8.7 million as part of its Vulnerability Reward Program (VRP) in 2021. For Android alone this number stood $3 million ($2,935,244 or approximately Rs 22 crore) in rewards. This was nearly double the previous year’s figure. A total of 119 researchers worldwide were awarded for finding critical flaws in Android.

Google’s VRP also awarded the highest payout in history this year: $157,000 for an exploit chain discovered in Android. It also offered a $1.5 million bounty for finding compromises in its Titan-M security chip that the company uses in its Pixel mobile devices. The prize remains unclaimed so far.

“I’ve been conducting security research for about four years. And the Bugsmirror team’s unwavering commitment to security research has aided us in designing and developing algorithms-based products on our own. These allowed us to find weaknesses with unrivalled speed and precision. “Programs like these (Google’s) have aided not just research businesses like ours, but also ordinary consumers in recognising the need of privacy and security research,” Aman Pandey told the Indian Express.
