A woman sub-inspector posted at the Meerut police lines has been suspended after an allegedly objectionable video shared on social media raised concerns over compliance with the Uttar Pradesh Police’s social media policy, according to information visible in the report. The Cyber Cell has been asked to verify the authenticity of the footage, while a departmental inquiry has also been ordered.
The officer has been identified in official records as Sub-Inspector Anu. Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey ordered her suspension after the video began circulating online. Police said a QR code appeared in the recently posted footage, prompting concern within the force and among local supervisory officers.
Cyber Cell Asked to Examine Video
Officials said the Cyber Cell will examine whether the circulated video is genuine and assess other related facts. The technical examination will include scrutiny of the video and associated material.
Alongside the cyber examination, a departmental inquiry has been initiated to determine whether the officer breached police conduct rules or the department’s social media policy. Further action will depend on the findings of both processes. SP (Crime) Avnish Kumar described the suspension as an administrative action taken over an alleged breach of the department’s social media rules.
“The suspension was ordered for violating the department’s social media policy,” Kumar said, according to the report.
Police also clarified that no footage showing the sub-inspector in uniform had surfaced so far.
Officer Maintained Active Social Media Accounts
According to Meerut police, the sub-inspector maintained active accounts on platforms including YouTube and Instagram. She regularly posted content relating to gym workouts, fitness tips and aspects of her personal life, the report said. Her public profiles also identified her as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
The episode has brought attention to the department’s rules governing the online conduct of serving personnel, particularly where an officer’s professional affiliation is publicly visible alongside personal social media activity. Officials indicated that the immediate priority is to establish the facts through technical verification and the departmental process.
Further Action to Depend on Inquiry Findings
Officials described the matter as involving two parallel examinations. The Cyber Cell will determine the authenticity of the footage and examine related technical information, while the departmental inquiry will assess whether any breach of conduct occurred.
Depending on the findings, further departmental action may follow. The report states that possible outcomes could range from reinstatement if the officer is cleared to disciplinary measures if violations are established.
Until the technical verification and departmental inquiry are completed, the suspension remains in force. Police officials said subsequent action would be based on the Cyber Cell’s findings and the inquiry report.
