Bengaluru: AI-native data security company Matters.AI has raised ₹55 crore in funding to develop what it calls an “AI Security Engineer” — a system designed to help organizations identify, predict, and respond to data risks across cloud, SaaS, and on-premise environments.
The latest ₹42 crore seed round was co-led by Kalaari Capital and Endiya Partners, with participation from Better Capital, Carya Venture Partners, and several cybersecurity-focused investors. The company had earlier secured ₹13 crore in a pre-seed round.
According to the founders, the funding will be used to strengthen research and development in predictive detection, expand operations in India and the United States, and build customer success teams for regulated industries operating under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act.

Focus on Unified Data Protection
Matters.AI’s platform aims to integrate multiple data protection functions—such as Data Security Posture Management (DSPM), Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and Insider Risk Management—into a single framework. The company says its technology uses semantic models and contextual analysis to map how sensitive data moves within an organization and to flag unusual or high-risk activity.
The system can operate across hybrid infrastructures and includes integrations with major enterprise software platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Salesforce, and Zoho. It also supports governance for generative AI tools like ChatGPTand Gemini.
Industry Perspective
Industry observers note that enterprises are increasingly looking for automated solutions that can handle the growing scale and complexity of data security. Analysts say that with privacy regulations tightening globally, Indian startups are starting to build systems capable of autonomous detection and compliance.
Speaking about the investment, Sateesh Andra, Managing Director of Endiya Partners, said that enterprises today face a “gap between visibility and enforcement.” He added that solutions capable of unifying data discovery and control can help reduce alert fatigue and improve response times.
Similarly, Sampath, Partner at Kalaari Capital, said that as organizations adopt AI at scale, “intelligent, self-learning data protection systems” are becoming a necessity rather than an option.
