A local court in Mirzapur has sentenced a man to seven years of simple imprisonment for posing as the son of a childless couple and securing a government job using forged documents. The court of First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pallavi Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, ruling that failure to pay the fine would lead to an additional two months of imprisonment.
Complaint Filed Over Attempt to Grab Couple’s Property
The case originates from Sahaspura village located within the limits of the Chunar police station. On April 28, 2017, a local resident named Prem Shankar Pandey lodged a formal criminal case against the accused, Bhagwati Prasad, accusing him of cheating and forging official papers. According to the complaint, Prasad hatched a conspiracy to usurp the property of a childless couple residing in the village by falsely representing himself as their biological son and fabricating documents to validate the claim.
The husband of the childless couple had retired from government service as an Aerodrome Officer at the Babatpur airport. Exploiting this manufactured familial link, the accused used fabricated credentials to mislead the Executive Engineer of the Lift Irrigation Construction Division in Varanasi, successfully securing appointment to the post of a helper in the department.
Court Convicts Accused on Basis of Witness Testimonies
Following the initial registration of the case, police conducted a comprehensive investigation into the forged records and subsequently submitted a formal chargesheet before the competent court. During the course of the judicial trial, prosecution witnesses were examined and key evidentiary materials were placed on record to establish the fraudulent succession and illegal employment.
Upon reviewing the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court held the accused guilty of the charges. The convict has been identified as Bhagwati Prasad, son of Devnandan, a resident of Shahpur village under the jurisdiction of the Baragaon police station in Varanasi district.
Prosecution Team Secures Conviction After Lengthy Trial
The court pronounced its final verdict on Tuesday, bringing an end to the proceedings that had been underway since the registration of the first information report in 2017. The judgment concluded that the documentary fraud committed to claim inheritance rights and extract state employment warranted substantial punitive action, leading to the seven-year prison term.
The prosecution of the case was conducted before the magistrate by Assistant Prosecution Officer Jitendra Yadav. The investigation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar Yadav. Significant assistance during the trial proceedings and institutional follow-up was provided by Court Moharrir Head Constable Sohrab Ali, Constable Pankaj Gaur, and Pairokar Head Constable Saheb Singh Yadav, whose sustained efforts helped secure the conviction.
