This initiative aims to ensure the safety of millions of pilgrims from across the globe by deploying an advanced cybersecurity team and establishing a dedicated cyber police station at Mahakumbhnagar.
As the event gears up to host an estimated 45 crore devotees, the Uttar Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned to tackle cybercriminals and enhance the experience for attendees. This station is tasked with addressing online threats, including the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI), dark web activities, and scams on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajesh Dwivedi, leading this massive operation, revealed that a team of top cyber experts from across Uttar Pradesh is already in action. These officers are monitoring suspicious activities, identifying fake websites, and taking immediate action to neutralize any threats.
44 Fake Websites Flagged, Action Underway
In a proactive crackdown, the cyber task force has flagged 44 suspicious websites targeting devotees with fake links and fraudulent schemes. These sites often impersonate official portals, attempting to solicit money or steal sensitive information. The team is working round the clock to dismantle these fraudulent operations and prevent further harm.
“We have a robust plan to tackle any misuse of technology, whether it’s through AI-driven scams or malicious activities on social media platforms,” SSP Dwivedi shared. “Our experts are equipped with the tools and strategies to ensure devotees remain safe, both online and offline.”
Round-the-Clock Cyber Vigilance
The cybersecurity team is operating in two modes: stationary officers working from cyber desks and mobile units patrolling the fairgrounds. The mobile units are equipped to handle real-time complaints about fake websites, phishing attempts, or fraudulent social media accounts.
Devotees can approach the cyber team directly or report issues through the newly launched helpline number, 1920, which offers immediate assistance for any cyber-related concerns during the event.

To counter the spread of misinformation, the government is actively promoting its official websites, which all end with the “.gov.in” domain. These platforms serve as the only reliable sources for event-related information. Simultaneously, an extensive awareness campaign is educating devotees on how to recognize and avoid cyber scams.
Pilgrims are being encouraged to report suspicious websites or activities to local police stations, where swift action will be taken by the cyber team. The campaign also highlights common tactics used by fraudsters, such as fake donation links or AI-generated phishing attempts.

The cybersecurity task force has deployed advanced monitoring systems to track and neutralize threats on social media platforms and the dark web. Fraudsters using AI to manipulate images or create convincing fake profiles are under constant watch.
