The Ludhiana Police made a significant drug bust on Monday, arresting two alleged drug peddlers in the Meharban area while they were en route to deliver a consignment on foot, officials said. The seizure occurred during routine patrolling, highlighting persistent efforts by law enforcement to clamp down on heroin trafficking in the region.
Police recovered 320 grams of heroin from the suspects, along with ₹9,000 in suspected drug proceeds and equipment believed to be used for weighing and distributing the contraband, a senior officer told reporters.

Suspects Identified and Arrested
The two accused have been identified as Raj Misra, a resident of Bazigar Mohalla in Meharban, and Rishav, from Bajra Colony in the same locality. Both were taken into custody on the spot during police patrol checks. Officers said they will be interrogated to uncover their wider trafficking network — including both backward and forward linkages.
Police have already launched efforts to trace sources of the heroin and determine whether the arrested men were receiving consignments from a state-level supplier or larger organised group. The accessories seized — including scales and packaging material — suggest the operation could be part of a broader distribution chain rather than an isolated delivery.
Context: Drug Trafficking In Ludhiana
Heroin trafficking remains a major law-and-order challenge in Punjab, with Ludhiana frequently emerging as a hotspot for smuggling and peddling activities. In recent months, authorities have made multiple significant arrests — including captures of heroin consignments weighing over 600 grams and more than a kilogram in other incidents — as part of ongoing anti-narcotics drives.
Punjab Police, under campaigns such as “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” (War Against Drugs), have intensified crackdowns on drug peddlers, leading to hundreds of arrests and seizures across the state. The strategy combines street patrols, tip-offs, intelligence-led operations and coordination with special units such as the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).
What’s Next In The Probe
Following the arrest, investigators will conduct custodial interrogation to map the suspects’ connections and identify upstream suppliers as well as downstream distributors. Officers are also analysing mobile phones, financial records and travel routes to ascertain whether the heroin was sourced from interstate networks or organised smuggling channels. Court proceedings are expected under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
As the probe unfolds, police have appealed to citizens to report suspicious behaviour and share information that may help dismantle larger drug supply chains operating in and around Ludhiana.
