Another Land-Related Bribe Case Highlights Persistent Rural Corruption

Muzaffarnagar’s Anti-Corruption Saharanpur unit on Tuesday arrested Rajan Kumar, a lekhpal posted in the Charthawal area’s consolidation department, after he was allegedly caught taking a bribe of ₹20,000. The complaint was filed by Narendra Kumar of Sardhana, who alleged that the official demanded money to carry out an accurate measurement of his land.

Complaint Filed Over Demand for Bribe

According to officials, complainant Narendra Kumar approached the Anti-Corruption team after the lekhpal allegedly insisted on a payment in exchange for performing the mandatory land survey. The team verified the complaint before initiating action.

Trap Laid After Verification

Following confirmation of the allegations, the Anti-Corruption team devised a trap on Tuesday. The complainant was instructed to visit the lekhpal’s temporary office located in Rampuri with the marked currency notes. As soon as Rajan Kumar accepted the money, the waiting team detained him on the spot.

Arrest Made at Temporary Office in Rampuri

The arrest took place inside the makeshift office the lekhpal was operating from. Officials said the operation was executed without resistance and the recovered currency was seized as evidence.

Investigation Under Way by Anti-Corruption Unit

Inspector Jaspal Singh of the Anti-Corruption Saharanpur team confirmed that Rajan Kumar is being questioned. Further legal action is in progress, and the department will continue examining whether similar complaints exist against the accused.

The incident has once again drawn attention to bribery practices linked to land-related services in rural and semi-urban regions. Officials stated that strict action will continue against public servants found engaging in corrupt practices.
