The Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Customs has arrested a 30-year-old resident of Ghatkopar for allegedly attempting to smuggle high-grade hydroponic cannabis from Bangkok into India. The suspect, identified as A.A.R. Miyan, was intercepted on Tuesday at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport shortly after arriving on a flight from Thailand. Officials recovered 1,015 grams of the contraband from his luggage and took him into custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Passenger Intercepted Near Terminal Exit

The interception took place after surveillance teams flagged the traveler based on spot profiling inside the arrival hall. Officers stopped Miyan near the exit gate as he was preparing to leave the airport terminal with his baggage. He was escorted to the examination area, where customs personnel initiated a detailed inspection of his personal belongings.

A thorough physical check of his luggage led officers to a trolley bag containing clothing along with three standard shampoo bottles. The containers were singled out for closer scrutiny after personnel detected anomalies that suggested possible concealment within the packaging.

Contraband Found Concealed in Toiletries

Upon opening the shampoo containers, officials discovered transparent plastic packets hidden inside. These packets contained 1,015 grams of hydroponic weed, a potent form of cannabis that is strictly regulated under Indian narcotics legislation. The contraband was seized on the spot, and procedural formalities were initiated against the traveler.

Following the recovery, customs authorities served Miyan with a formal summons and recorded his voluntary statement. During interrogation, the accused admitted to carrying the illicit consignment into the country. He informed investigators that he was fully conscious of the stringent legal penalties associated with drug trafficking in India, but chose to take the risk in order to make quick and easy money. He was formally placed under arrest after the completion of initial questioning.

Investigators Trace Broader Supply Network

Customs officials stated that the case remains at an early stage, with investigative teams working to uncover the wider syndicate connected to the smuggling attempt. Preliminary findings and the statement tendered by the accused indicate the involvement of other operatives who coordinated the procurement and distribution of the narcotic shipment.

Efforts are underway to establish how the consignment was sourced in Bangkok and identify the local handlers intended to receive the delivery in Mumbai. Officers are actively analyzing the suspect’s background and travel patterns to trace and apprehend his associates linked to the trafficking channel.
