A petrol pump in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district has come under scrutiny after a car owner alleged that more fuel was dispensed than the maximum capacity of his vehicle’s fuel tank. The incident, reported at a Hindustan Petroleum outlet near Maa Dharmsamadha Temple in Ramkola, has raised questions about the accuracy of the pump’s fuel dispensing system.

According to the complainant, Rupesh Pandey, he visited the petrol pump to refuel his car, whose manufacturer specifies a fuel tank capacity of 37 litres. He also claimed that the vehicle already had enough petrol to cover approximately 58 kilometres before refuelling. However, after the transaction, he was issued a bill showing that more than 42 litres of petrol had been dispensed.

Pandey said he immediately questioned the petrol pump staff about the apparent discrepancy. In response, he was handed a printed receipt generated by the dispensing machine showing that over 42 litres of petrol had been supplied. He subsequently submitted a formal complaint to the District Supply Officer, attaching the fuel bill, online payment receipt, and other supporting documents while seeking an impartial investigation.

The incident has triggered concerns over the functioning of the petrol pump and the accuracy of its fuel dispensing equipment. Considering the vehicle’s stated tank capacity and the fuel allegedly remaining in the tank before refuelling, the complainant’s allegations have become a matter requiring technical verification. However, officials say the actual facts can only be established after a detailed inspection.

The matter is now before the District Supply Officer, who has initiated the inquiry. As part of the investigation, officials may examine the fuel dispensing machine, calibration records, measurement equipment, and other technical aspects of the petrol pump. If any irregularities or violations of prescribed standards are found, appropriate action may be taken under the applicable rules.

Experts note that maintaining transparency and accuracy in fuel dispensing is essential to protecting consumer rights. They caution that no conclusions should be drawn until the investigation is completed. However, if the allegations are substantiated, the case could have wider implications for fuel retail operations and consumer confidence.

Authorities are awaiting the outcome of the investigation, which is expected to determine whether the incident resulted from a technical error, a measurement discrepancy, or any other irregularity.
