Bengaluru: The Karnataka government organised a state-level workshop on strengthening cybersecurity frameworks for state data, bringing together more than 80 senior officials from over 30 departments, corporations, boards and government agencies. The programme focused on improving data protection, cyber resilience and the security of the state’s digital governance infrastructure.

Senior Officials Discuss Cybersecurity Priorities

The workshop was organised by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance) in collaboration with the Centre for e-Governance, CySecK, the Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity in Karnataka, and the National e-Governance Division. It was held at Hotel The Lalit Ashok in Bengaluru on July 10.

Ranjeet Mishra, Centre Head of CySecK, delivered the welcome remarks. The programme was inaugurated by Pankaj Kumar Pandey, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance), and Dr Avinash Menon Rajendran, IAS, Managing Director of the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society. Senior officials from several state departments also attended.

Keynote sessions titled “Karnataka Cyber-Ready for the Future” and “Cyber Resilience for e-Governance” stressed the need for coordinated measures to protect citizen data and strengthen the security of government digital systems.

Technical Sessions Focus on State Infrastructure

The technical discussions covered cybersecurity practices for the State Data Centre, Karnataka’s unified cyber resilience strategy and the operational challenges faced by participating departments.

Officials also presented details of existing cybersecurity initiatives and examined measures required to improve protection across the state’s digital governance ecosystem.

The workshop included six thematic breakout sessions on risk-based security monitoring, State Data Centre and Karnataka State Wide Area Network security, Security Operations Centre and State Computer Security Incident Response Team mechanisms.

Joint Action Plan Outlines Next Steps

Participants also discussed secure-by-design and Zero Trust principles, data classification, readiness for the Digital Personal Data Protection framework and cybersecurity capacity building.

The discussions concluded with the preparation of a Joint Action Plan containing priority recommendations and implementation measures for strengthening cybersecurity across government departments.

The workshop reaffirmed the Karnataka government’s commitment to developing a secure and resilient digital governance system through interdepartmental collaboration, knowledge sharing and continued capacity building.
