Karnataka Cyber Security Policy 2024 Released: Rs 103 Crores Allocated For Policy Implementation
Bengaluru, Aug 1 (PTI) On Thursday, the Karnataka Government unveiled a comprehensive Cyber Security Policy 2024 aimed at tackling the increasing incidence of cybercrimes. The policy promotes awareness, skill development, public-private partnerships, and technological integration to safeguard the State’s digital infrastructure.
The policy’s focus spans key areas such as awareness and education, skill development, promotion of industry and startups, and partnerships for capacity building, according to officials.
A budget of Rs 103.87 crores has been earmarked for the five-year policy implementation, which includes a dedicated fund of Rs 23.74 crores for offering attractive incentives and concessions to support the policy’s effective execution
“The Government of Karnataka, acknowledging the growing significance of cyber security, has carefully designed this policy to create a robust and secure cyberspace for our citizens and businesses,” said Priyank Kharge, Minister for Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Information Technology, and Biotechnology, at the launch event.
He highlighted that the policy, which aligns with both national and international initiatives, underscores Karnataka’s proactive approach to addressing cyber threats.
According to Kharge, the policy comprises two segments. The first segment aims to establish a strong cyber security ecosystem encompassing the public, academia, industry, startups, and government. The second segment focuses on enhancing the cyber security stance of the State’s IT assets. While the first segment will be publicly accessible, the second will be restricted to the state’s IT teams and departments for internal IT implementations.
This policy was jointly developed by the Department of Electronics, IT, BT, and S&T, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance), and the Home Department, with input from relevant stakeholders in both the public and private sectors. The policy was also reviewed by the Indian Institute of Science, which serves as the anchor institute for the state’s K-tech Center of Excellence for Cyber Security (CySecK).
Kharge also introduced a skilling programme in collaboration with network giant CISCO.
“This partnership with CISCO demonstrates our commitment to fostering a secure digital environment. By training 40,000 individuals, with a particular focus on empowering women, we are addressing the skills gap and promoting inclusivity in the tech sector,” Kharge stated.
