Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh – In a significant ruling, a court in Varanasi has convicted two cyber criminals from Jharkhand in connection with a case registered under crime number 48/2021. The accused, Mantu Mandal and Pramod Kumar Mandal, were found guilty of cheating and fraud through electronic means, specifically under sections 420 of the IPC and 66D of the Information Technology Act.
The case, which was investigated by the Sunder Kaam Police Station in Varanasi, involved complex cyber fraud activities. According to the court order, Mantu Mandal, son of Ishwar Mandal and resident of Road Madhuvan, PS-Manihajit, Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 for his involvement in the crime.
Pramod Kumar Mandal, son of Naresh Mandal and resident of Santojora, Budhi Thana, Saraiya Hat, Dumka district, Jharkhand, was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000. Additionally, he was given an extra month of imprisonment for failing to pay the fine related to the IT Act conviction.

The court order also stipulated that 75% of the fine amount collected would be disbursed as compensation to the complainant in the case. The convicted individuals have been directed to deposit the fine amount through a challan at the treasury.
