Jaipur South Police have arrested 21 persons in connection with an alleged nationwide cyber fraud syndicate linked to 101 complaints across multiple states, involving suspected transactions of approximately Rs 18.60 crore. Investigators registered 15 cases during a targeted crackdown against cyber offences and the trade of mule bank accounts used to obscure illicit financial trails. A scrutiny of bank passbooks and cheque books seized from the accused connected the network to cases lodged on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Police confirmed that Rs 45.83 lakh was traced directly in the associated accounts, while the operational footprint of the syndicate reached victims in several states including Karnataka and Odisha.
Seizures and Diverse Modes of Deception
During the raids, law enforcement officers seized Rs 2.04 lakh in cash, 38 mobile phones, an SUV, 25 cheque books, 20 passbooks, and 30 ATM and debit cards. Investigators also impounded forged PAN and Aadhaar identity documents issued under the names of 15 individuals, alongside 12 Thai currency notes. Technical teams are currently analysing the confiscated hardware and documents to map the transaction paths. Police stated that the syndicate used varied methods to mislead the public, ranging from listing vehicles on OLX at unrealistically low prices to floating fraudulent Facebook pages offering three-dimensional idols where advance payments were collected without delivering goods.
Mule Accounts and Impersonation of CBI Officials
A major component of the operation involved the procurement and sale of mule accounts. Intermediaries persuaded individuals to open bank accounts against promised commissions, later selling those accounts to cybercriminals for amounts between Rs 8,000 and Rs 10,000 to facilitate fund routing. In several instances, gang members posed as Central Bureau of Investigation officers over phone calls, threatening victims with arrest or implication in criminal cases to extort funds. Inquiries further revealed that suspicious bank accounts were established across different states using fabricated Know Your Customer documentation and forged identity cards, with additional illicit transactions tied to online gaming platforms.
Enforcement Drive Under Rajasthan Cyber Shield
The operation was conducted under the statewide Cyber Shield initiative launched by the Rajasthan Director General of Police to curb online crime and expedite case resolution. Between January 1 and October 17, 2026, Jaipur South Police disposed of 25,808 complaints out of 31,976 pending matters, recovering 542 missing or stolen mobile handsets valued at Rs 1.05 crore. Authorities also froze Rs 8.84 crore linked to fraud, while refunding Rs 1.77 crore to complainants under Operation Vajra Prahar 2.0 and another Rs 93.84 lakh through the MRM portal. Alongside community outreach covering over 7,000 students across 20 institutions, officers tracked 944 wanted suspects nationwide, forwarding alerts to respective police stations as the financial probe continues.
