In a landmark legal move, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has filed a defamation lawsuit, seeking €100,000 (approximately ₹90.8 lakh) in damages, following the unauthorized distribution of deepfake pornography videos featuring her likeness. This case, highlighted by the BBC, stands as a significant moment in the fight against digital abuse and defamation.
The lawsuit targets two individuals, a 40-year-old man and his 73-year-old father, accused of creating and disseminating videos that superimposed Meloni’s face onto the body of another person in pornographic content. These videos were then uploaded to a US-based website, where they have accumulated millions of views, as reported by ANSA, an Italian news agency. The defamation trial is set to take place on July 2, in the Sardinian city of Sassari, where Prime Minister Meloni will present her testimony.

Represented by her lawyer, Meloni has declared that the compensation she seeks through this legal action is symbolic.
