The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended senior IPS officer N. Sanjay, who previously served as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and Chief of the Crime Investigation Department (CID). This decision follows an inquiry by the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) wing, which found him allegedly involved in financial misconduct during his tenure as Director General of AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services. The allegations suggest that he misused government funds amounting to Rs 1 crore.

Sanjay, a 1996-batch officer, was known for probing high-profile cases, including the alleged scam involving the AP Skill Development Corporation, where TDP chief and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was named an accused. On September 23 last year, Sanjay oversaw the operation in Nandyal where Naidu was arrested by CID officers.

The V&E report highlights that during his tenure in the AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services, Sanjay allegedly awarded tenders for the creation of a web portal and hardware procurement to Vijayawada-based Sauthrika Technologies and Infra Private Limited, despite the company completing only 14% of the contracted work. Payments were still processed for the incomplete work. Additionally, the report accuses him of authorizing payments totaling Rs 1.19 crore to Kritvyap Technologies Pvt Ltd, ostensibly for conducting SC/ST awareness workshops. However, investigations revealed that the company did not exist at the listed Hyderabad address, which was instead occupied by Sauthrika Technologies.

Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad, in a two-page order, stated that Sanjay’s actions constituted misuse of government funds. Consequently, the government deemed it necessary to suspend him, pending further inquiry. He has been directed to remain at the police headquarters and will require permission from the government to leave.
